Pool Rules & How Mining Works
This page explains how SatoshiPool works, how rewards are split, and why you don't need to wait thousands of years to have a chance at finding a key. The short answer: every chunk is random, and anyone can hit the jackpot at any moment.
How the Mining Actually Works
Most people imagine mining as starting at the beginning of a range and working through it sequentially — like reading a book page by page. That is not how SatoshiPool works.
We use random chunks, not sequential scanning. Your GPU gets random chunks from all over the range. One chunk might be at 90% of the range, the next at 3%, then 88%, then 45%. This means you are always covering new, random ground — you never get stuck scanning the same area.
Why does this matter? Because:
- Anyone can find the key at any time — your first chunk could be the lucky one
- No one has an advantage — everyone gets random chunks
- You don't need to wait 3000 years — every scanned key is a ticket in the lottery
- More miners = more chances — each new GPU adds more random chunks
Think of it like a lottery where every ticket is a random key. The pool gives you millions of tickets per second. Your ticket could win at any second.
Reward Split (How You Get Paid)
When a key is found, the reward is split as follows:
40% — Finder Bonus (the miner who found the key)
55% — All Miners (split proportionally by contribution)
5% — Operator (server maintenance and development)
Important: The finder is included in the 55% pool. They receive their fair share based on their total contribution, just like everyone else. Finding the key means you get the 40% bonus + your regular share.
About the 253-256 Wallets
These are old forgotten Bitcoin mining wallets from the early days (2009-2013). Back then, miners used uncompressed public keys (the old format). Our pool specifically scans for these wallets using a database of known public keys.
Key difference from Puzzle 71: The 253-256 pool scans for thousands of addresses at once, not just one. Instead of hashing and comparing to a single address, we compare the raw public key directly against the database. This is much faster per key — no hashing needed. The pool has a database of ~250,000 mining wallets.
The 253-256 pool is currently being prepared. When active, it will use the same random-chunk
system as Puzzle 71. Miners will connect to wallet.satoshipool.org when it launches.
Fair Play Rules
- Each worker must be registered with a unique nickname and password
- One GPU = one worker instance (e.g., YourNick-GPU0, YourNick-GPU1)
- No cheating — attempts to exploit the system result in a permanent ban
- No sharing credentials — each miner must use their own account
- Inactive workers (no response for 4+ hours) have segments reassigned
Payouts
- Rewards are paid in Bitcoin (BTC) to the address you provided during registration
- Payouts are processed manually after each key is found and confirmed
- You are responsible for providing a correct wallet address
Privacy & Security
- No email required — just a nickname and Bitcoin address
- Your password is hashed — even the operator cannot read it
- Your nickname is visible on the leaderboard, but nothing else
- Found keys are encrypted — only the operator with the pendrive can decrypt them
- The pool is fully open-source — the available code is before the latest optimizations that increased speed from 3 GH/s to 5.2 GH/s on RTX 4090
